Imagining Better Futures through

alternative thought, learning and action.

ATLA Community designs and delivers place-based projects combining art, research, and systems thinking where creativity and collaboration drive real-world change

The ATLA Community is a creative research organisation of teachers, artists, researchers, and community organisers. Our projects sit at the middle of storytelling, systems thinking, art and place-based change, exploring the connections between people, communities, and the living environment. Whether we’re reimagining green infrastructure, exploring new ways of storytelling  or prototyping new futures with communities, we bring creativity to complexity and make it make sense.

We work across disciplines, because the world is interconnected.

From rewilding to mental health, from biodiversity to belonging, we believe that care for people, land, and communities must go hand-in-hand. Often the answers we need aren’t new, they’ve simply been overlooked. We work with partners to surface forgotten knowledge, rethink the obvious, and prototype better ways forward.

We work with people who have ideas that don’t quite fit the mould; to design and deliver creative programmes that meet real-world needsWhether it starts as a rough sketch, a feeling, or a fully-formed concept, we help bring it to life through thoughtful collaboration and a deep creative process.

We support partners to shape projects rooted in place and purpose, offering everything from research design and immersive workshops to filmmaking, participatory arts, and narrative development. We teach skills, mentor new thinking, and manage projects end-to-end, always with a focus on sustainable impact, creative learning, and collective voice.

At the heart of it all is a belief that creativity and care are essential to transformation.

Our strength lies in turning complex ideas into tangible action, and creating spaces where learning, connection, and joy can take root.
